Matt Odeneal

2004 Points Champion - Outlaw Pony Division

2005 Points Champion - 2 Barrel Late Model Division

Matt Odeneal broke into dirt track racing in March of 2003. The early part of '03 was a learning experience for the then 15 year-old Odeneal, running weekly in the Rookie Pony Division at Duck River Speedway. Little did anyone know, at the time, a success story was developing....along with a fan base.

Odeneal's Rookie Pony days were numbered. In a two-day span, on Memorial Day Weekend in 2003, he won a race that had been rescheduled from a week before the regularly scheduled race on Saturday night. Then, on Sunday night, he won his third race of the weekend. * He is the only driver in the division's four year existence to win three races in a row, much less, three in two days.

The rookie Pony Division was conceived out of a need for a "training ground" for new talent. A driver can only win three races in the division. After that, he or she must move on. Odeneal  was ready for the next step.

His next step... the Outlaw Pony Division. Matt went through the rest of the '03 season, learning his craft, from the veterans in the division. He had several good finishes, and continued to hone his skills.

The 2004 season would be more successful, than even 16 year-old Odeneal could have ever imagined. Matt won several races on the quarter-mile dirt track at D.R.S.. He had sixteen, top five finishes, and twenty top tens. He topped it off, with a Points Championship, in the Outlaw Pony Division, winning by almost 150 points over his closest opponent. He chose not to run in the Season Championship Race for the Outlaws, since he had an insurmountable lead in points. He chose instead to move on to his next endeavor... The 2-Barrel Late Models, one of the premier divisions at Duck River Speedway.
